I just discovered an elderly man (a man my family knows via being fellow Italian American winemakers) had his skull fractured by a man with a hammer who allowed the bull crap hate flourishing in this world to take over his very humanity. I share this scene from an American classic to reinforce the goodness of humanity in this climate of hate. I repeat an American classic created from the gut of this great country. It brings tears to my eyes, but pure life-affirming tears. As my uncle tells me in his current filmmaker sage status, "The purpose of cinema is to show us that the world we live in is not the only one available to us." Cinema is an art form that actually has the power to do that. Italian Neo-realism did that for Italy after the great war. Man, I really need that walk to the sea, pause, but add praying to the equation.
