CRC, Once again, I love’d your ‘title’ here. It reminds me of something I once did….and not all of it planned, mind you. Hope you won’t mind the story I’m about to share.
A few years back when my kids were little I was Director of the Storyhour program at my Church. At Christmas time, I was in charge of putting on the navity story with 3 to 6 years olds. Imagine! In front of about 800 people!
The kids did wonderfully and the congregation broke into applause at the end of our little play (not usually something that happens in Church)…so you know the kids had to have been charming.
Anyway…I digress. At the end of the story, I had been asked to say a few words to the congregation, to talk about the program, the little kids….
This mind you….asked of a woman who shook thru her boots all during Speech class!
Anyway….I did a little babble, trying to promote the Storyhour program so more kids (and adults) might get involved. And I had come up with the idea at the end of my spiel to give each and every child sitting in the pews one of those snappable plastic light necklaces that you get at carnivals or that you might pick up for safety on Halloween.
Anyway………GAWD….I’m sorry this is such a long story….but I did as YOUR title suggests….and my finishing words were that all the children should come up to the front, be given a light necklace and on the count of three we would all snap our lights into brillance so that God’s love could not only shine down on us all but also so that we could spread God’s love to everyone we met that day!
There must have been 150 kids in the congregation that day because next thing I knew, when we were all lit up and standing in front of the Church, the guy who controled the Church lights turned them off and the Pastor impetuously decided that the kids should lead the congregation out of the sanctuary and out into the world using the kids lights as beaconing lights.
Mind you……NO one had any idea what my small plan was in thinking to give each child a light to wear all day to spread the light of God’s love.
But God always works in mysterious ways.
I’d like to think that the impromptu ending to the service had everyone feeling, as YOU said here….feeling
God’s Light of Love Shining On Them.
There! Pfeww! I’m finally done!
Aren’t you glad I don’t stop by much??? LOL!
Hugz to all!
Just got in from a lovely candle-lit Christmas eve service and wanted to stop by to wish each one here — and their families — a very merry Christmas and the happiest of new years. “For ye are the light of the world… let your light shine upon mankind, and give glory to God.” Peace, love and joy to all — Beth
Wow! My heart goes out to all of you. Merry Christmas to One and All. And if the candle wax melts away, “Let your hearts be lights!” Bless you, Coppola family… Bless you, Ben. Bless you, Beth… Bless All of you.
As always…
All for One, One for All
Let your hearts be lights — radically profound. Gives a whole new meaning… I used to think of it as: let your heart be breezy, light and gay (opposite of heavy laden u know…) But the way you phrased it struck me with a much deeper meaning — an awesome blessing, EW. Thank you and brightest blessings to you also. (Now I keep hearing that song, “Turn On Your Heart Light Now” in the back of my mind!)
You’re quite welcome, Beth. I try to blog straight from my heart. I guess I trust my heart better than my head. I thank you for the brightest blessings. Your blessings — powered by God — help to make our world go round.
And why I believe, it is possible for all of us to become one with whatever we share our heart with. As always…
